A Few Useful Items to Pack for a Cruise

For years I have kept a very detailed list of items to pack for a cruise. I find that reviewing this list often has allowed me to be better prepared and to enjoy my cruise more. Before a cruise I will look at what others suggest to pack for a cruise and if I think it may help, I'll add it to my list. I also review items on the list that I no longer need to bring. For instance, I used to live near the cruise port and would take longer 14-day cruises on Royal Caribbean which does not have a laundry. To save money, I packed a portable washbasin sold as camping equipment, and would use that to hand wash my clothes. That worked out much better than just using the sink. But now I'm flying to the port and also sailing on Princess, who have a self-serve laundry. So no need to lug a washbasin around.

On this list you will find a few items that I have found to work out really well. I'll explain how I use them and why I choose them. Also, If I'm on the lookout for something better or different.

I will include links to the items on Amazon and these are affiliate links so I may receive a small referral from Amazon if you use the link.

Plug-in LED Night Light

I find it helpful to have a nightlight in the stateroom bathroom. The lights in the bath tend to be very bright so having a night light for the evening is nice. There is normally a US plug in the bathroom, but be sure the voltage and outlet matches the light you buy. On my last two cruises on Princess, I used these LED night lights. The lights can be set to different levels of brightness or color (white or yellow). These also go off when you turn on the regular light, which is nice especially if you also plan to use them at home. I do find these to be a little large, it would be nice to find something smaller but still as bright.

Power Adapter with a Plug

I have seen many suggestions for power adapters to charge your electronics, but most of them plug directly into the outlet. I have found that the weight of the adapter causes the adapter to fall out of the plug. I prefer to use an adapter that has a cord attached to it, that way the heavy adapter rests on the desk. I like this one as it has two USB-C outlets which I need.

Artificial Flowers and Vase

Having flowers in the stateroom is a really nice upgrade. I normally stay in inside cabins so adding some personal touches to the room really helps to make it an inviting place to be. Recently it has been difficult if not impossible to order fresh flowers for your stateroom, but by buying some nice artificial flowers, you can use them over and over and save the cost. These flowers match the colors in the newer Princess ship staterooms.
